Suggested Daily Tasks

Below is a list of suggested daily tasks.  Please feel free to do as little or as much as you’d like.  Feel free to use your own discretion if you feel something needs to be tended to.

Monday

  • Harvest available vegetables
  • Delivery to Peace Center 9AM-12PM (9AM is preferred time); Crates available for transporting and can be delivered as bulk produce
  • Weed, prune (if needed) and dispose into compost

Tuesday

  • Water box #1 and flowers in benches
  • Weed, prune (if needed) and dispose into compost
  • Weed under boxes

Wednesday

  • Harvest available vegetables
  • Delivery to Peace Center 9AM-12PM (9AM is preferred time); Crates available for transporting and can be delivered as bulk produce
  • Weed, prune (if needed) and dispose into compost

Thursday

  • Harvest available vegetables
  • Delivery to Peace Center 4:30-6PM (4:30PM is preferred time); Crates available for transporting and can be delivered as bulk produce
  • Water box #1 and flowers in benches
  • Weed, prune (if needed) and dispose into compost

Friday

  • Harvest available vegetables
  • Delivery to Peace Center 9AM-12PM (9AM is preferred time); Crates available for transporting and can be delivered as bulk produce
  • Weed, prune (if needed) and dispose into compost

Saturday

  • Water box #1 and flowers in benches
  • Weed, prune (if needed) and dispose into compost
  • Weed under benches

Sunday

  • Weed, prune (if needed) and dispose into compost

COMPOST RULES

  1. ONLY add to bin #1.  
  2. Do NOT put in pet feces, meat, bones, whole eggs or dairy products. 
  3. Do NOT add diseased vegetables or insect infested plants. 

DONATION PROCESS

  1. Harvest available vegetables
  2. Transport to New Prague Peace Center (they require masks) using crates available
  3. Peace Center Volunteers will weigh the produce. Tell them the donation is coming from the Peace Garden so that an accurate record of donations can be kept.
  4. Put produce in new containers provided by Peace Center Volunteers.
  5. Return the crates to the Peace Garden.

Where is the Peace Garden located?

The New Prague Rotary Peace Garden is located on the south side of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 1300 Main Street East.

What hours is the Peace Garden open?

The Peace Garden is open from sunrise to sunset.  

Can I drop in whenever I like?

You may volunteer whenever you’d like between sunrise and sunset.  However, we do require that you register each time you volunteer.  Registration is always open.

You are welcome to visit the garden at any time during garden hours.  No registration is required for visitations.

What is planted in the garden?

The garden is made up of a variety of vegetables, herbs, and a few flowers.  The list of produce came directly from the Peace Center food shelf.

Should I bring my own gardening tools?

The Peace Garden has a couple of sets of handheld tools available for public use.  These tools are located inside the table.  Or you may choose to bring your own.   However, we do ask that you not store your personal tools in the garden as we cannot be held responsible for private items.

Are volunteers able to keep some of the produce?

Sorry, no.  The purpose of the garden is to grow fresh produce to donate to our neighbors in need through the New Prague Peace Center food shelf.  

Can I rent a garden box for my personal gardening?

No!  All community members are encouraged to participate in the garden.
